LIPUS-AD Therapy paper awarded Kikuchi Award at the 98th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine

A paper on a novel Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (LIPUS) brain therapy device by Assistant Professor Tomohiko Shindo of Tohoku University’s Department of Cardiovascular Medicine has won the prestigious Kikuchi Award (Paper Award) at the 98th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine (JSUM) in Kyoto on May 31, 2025.

The award recognizes the team’s detailed investigation into applying LIPUS to the human brain, building on successful dementia mouse model treatments. Key breakthroughs highly evaluated by the JSUM include identifying special irradiation conditions for dementia and a whole-brain irradiation concept for human therapy.
